Energy Savings

FeelSTATTM enables significantly lower HVAC power consumption as it allows the User to correctly set cooling and heating limits at the Edge of User Comfort– see definition below.

HVAC Energy Savings were calculated for calendar year 2021 using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) historical hourly meteorological data for selected U.S. and worldwide cities located in different climate zones. Carrying out hourly calculations over a full year using the generally acceptable HVAC concept of Degree-Days (as derived from NOAA’s hourly data) allows for good approximations of cooling and heating energy savings.

Comparisons were made between FeelSTATTM set at the “Edge of User Comfort” and a thermostat set at the temperature limits recommended by the governmental authorities.  The resulting energy savings were remarkable for some regions and are summarized in the Table below:

Edge of User Comfort

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is a worldwide recognized leading reference in all matters relating to HVAC.

FrontierTech International Inc. used ASHRAE’s definition of acceptable range of temperature and relative humidity and kept its FeelSTATTM cooling and heating limits within ASHRAE’s limits to provide a conservative estimate of energy savings.

For more information on ASHRAE’s definition of the limits of comfort, see ResearchGate, which summarized the “acceptable range of operative temperature and humidity ratio” using ASHRAE’s Standard 55:

Here ASHRAE defines the following extremes for cooling and heating limits: the far right line of the purple cooling zone and the far left line of the gray heating zone.  See Chart below:

Contrast ASHRAE’s limits with FeelSTATTM ’s “Edge of User Comfort” red line heating limit and blue line cooling limit (as plotted on the ASHRAE chart) used in FrontierTech International Inc.’s U.S. and worldwide cities’ energy savings calculations.  As stated above, FeelSTATTM ’s limits are conservative in comparison; this means that if ASHRAE’s own limits were to be strictly followed, then a FeelSTATTM powered thermostat would yield even more Energy Savings than what is shown in the Summary Table above.
